Quivira Bookshop and Photograph Gallery.

The Quivira Bookshop was established in 1964 in Corrales, NM by Ann Espe Dietz, specializing in rare and used books on the Southwest. The photograph gallery was opened in 1965, with prints for sale by photographers including Harvey Caplin, Van Deren Coke, Laura Gilpin, and Eric Porter. Quivira Bookshop and Photograph Gallery soon established an international reputation for being one of a very few galleries in the United States dedicated to the display of photography as a fine art medium. Quivira hosted many exhibitions of works by noted photographers, such as Alfred Stieglitz, Eliot Porter, Ansel Adams, Minor White, as well as lesser known artists. A branch of Quivira Bookshop and Photograph Gallery was opened in Old Town Albuquerque in 1968 (401 Romero St.), but closed the following year with a move to 2128 Central SE. Quivira moved to the University area (111 Cornell SE) in 1971. Eventually, the business was run out of Mrs. Dietz's home in Albuquerque's North Valley until her death on January 25, 2000.
