Richardson, William S.

William Richardson was born in Lanark, Scotland, on June 18, 1829. He worked in the mines from the age of ten, and after his mother's death moved often, living with his grandmother, father and stepmother, and aunt. In 1849 Richardson was baptized into the Mormon Church by Andrew Farguson (Ferguson). In 1851 he married Ann Walker (also called Joan Fatheringham) in Glasgow, and in 1856 the family left Scotland for the United States, settling in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Richardson worked at various mining and bridge building jobs, and in 1859 traveled to Illinois. In 1863 the family moved to Salt Lake City, where Richardson operated a saw mill. He died in Vernal, Utah, on August 24, 1904.
