Baizerman, Eugenie, 1899-1949
Eugenie Silverman Baizerman was born in Warsaw, Poland in 1899. She died in New York City on December 30, 1949, aged 50 years. She spent her early years in Bessarabia and Odessa, Russia where she began her formal art training. The collection contains a few of her drawings from this period. Eugenie immigrated to the United States in 1914. She began to study art at the Educational Alliance and the National Academy of Design in New York. In 1920 she met Saul Baizerman. They married and had one daughter, Ugesie. Most of Eugenie's works of art on paper, which make up most of the collection, date from the year she emigrated until the 1940s. According to Saul's published memoir Eugenie Baizerman and Her Art (New York, April 17, 1950), copies of which are in Box 4, she continued to work up until two days before her death.
