Williams, Waldo, 1904-1971
Waldo Williams (1904-1971); Welsh poet and nationalist; pacifist and war resister; conscientious objector to World War II; became a Quaker in 1953; was a war-tax resister, for which he was imprisoned; b. in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales; graduated from University College of Wales; later trained as a teacher, and taught at schools in Wales and England; his poetry was inspired by the Welsh landscape, people and their communal life.
