Lutheran World Ministries (Agency). General Secretary.
Established in 1947, the USANC was administered by the National Lutheran Council (NLC) from 1947 through 1966. Upon termination of the NLC in 1966, the USANC became a separate standing body. In 1977, it was reorganized again as LWM, a joint agency of the Lutheran Church in America, The American Lutheran Church, and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches. LWM was terminated in 1987 with the establishment of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. USANC and LWM General Secretaries included Paul C. Empie (1967-1972, 1974-1975); Carl H. Mau, Jr. (1973- 1974); Paul A. Wee (1976-1986); and Harold T. Hanson (1986-1987).
