Edward Bosqui (1832-1917) was born in Montreal and arrived in San Francisco in 1850. He founded the Bosqui Engraving and Printing Company in 1863 and was an organizer of the San Francisco Art Association in 1871, and was also an accomplished painter. His home in Marin County, in which he housed a large collection of California art (including his own) burned down in 1897, and in 1906 the Engraving and Printing Company was also destroyed by fire.
