Purser, Paul E.

Paul E. Purser was born in Southeast Louisiana. He graduated from Louisiana State University in 1939 with a BA in Aerospace Engineering. In his early career, he held engineering positions at Glen L. Martin Company in Baltimore, and at Langley Field, where he researched wind tunnels and worked in the Pilotless Aircraft Research Division (PARD). From 1958 to 1970, Purser was Special Assistant to the Director of Project Mercury, which developed into the Manned Spacecraft Center, the precursor to Johnson Space Center. In 1968, he served as Special Assistant to the President, University of Houston, where he advised the development of the University of Houston, Clear Lake.
