Kentucky. Office of the Governor

Republican William S. Taylor only served as Governor of Kentucky from December 12, 1899 to January 31, 1900, after the General Assembly challenged and overturned his victory. In turn, the governorship was awarded to Taylor's Democratic rival William Goebel. After Goebel's death, Taylor was indicted as an accessory to the shooting. He fled to Indiana where he was granted exile by that state's governor, who refused to extradite Taylor back to Kentucky. Taylor was pardoned by Republican Governor Augustas E. Wilson in 1909.
