Governor of South Carolina, 1822-1824; member of: S.C. House (1806-1808, 1812-1814,and 1816-1818), and S.C. Senate (1818-1822, 1826-1830); author of Code of Honor (1838), a manual for dueling; studied law in Baltimore, Md.; First Lieutenant in S.C. Militia; assistant quartermaster general; and captain of artillery; born in Marlboro County, S.C.; middle name also spelled Lide.
