Kennedy, Mary Jean, 1918-

Mary Jean Kennedy Aerni (1918-1998) was awarded her A.B. degree from Stanford University in 1939 and her Ph. D. in Anthropology at U.C. Berkeley in 1955. She did her early fieldwork among the San Carlos Apache, the Karok, the Yokuts, and the Kashaya Pomo. In the mid-1950s, she was one of the first American anthropologists to work in Pakistan, and in the 1960s she worked among the Karamajong, a tribe in Uganda. In the late 1970s she worked among the Yurok.
