Faith Lutheran Church (North Bend, Or.)

In the early 1900s Coos Bay and North Bend were served by two churches, each having their own pastor. The church in North Bend was called “Norwegian Evangelical Lutheran Church.” During the depression years the two churches called one pastor to serve them both. Pastors serving the early church were Jensen, Mathiason, Longbecker, and Gross. Differences in 1951 caused many families to leave the North Bend church to join the church in Coos Bay. Members of the North Bend church contacted the American Lutheran Church to inquire about affiliation with that synod. The church was officially organized April 20, 1958 with 64 baptized members. The original structure was begun on July 14, 1958 and dedicated March 15, 1959. By 1960 membership had grown to 286, and by 1966 to 465. Groundbreaking ceremonies took place on June 21, 1981 for an addition to the church. The congregation celebrated its 25th anniversary in April of 1983.
