Henshaw family.

Members of the Henshaw family were early proprietors of Leicester, Mass. William Henshaw (1735-1820) served under General Amherst in 1759 and was stationed at Fort Edward and Crown Point. He was an assistant to General Gates during the Siege of Boston, 1775, and participated in the Battle of Long Island, August 1776. Henshaw left the army in February 1777 and returned to his farm in Leicester where he was a prominent civic leader and justice of the peace. One of his sons, Horatio Gates Henshaw (1788-1860), was cashier of the Leicester bank and justice of the peace and wrote many newspaper articles on contemporary political events and essays on local Revolutionary War history.
