Neuroscientist (b. 1938). Associate professor of Pharmacology (1973-1978) and professor of Pharmacology (1978-1981), professor of Neurobiology and chairman of the Neurobiology Department (1990-1998), Harvard Medical School. Professor of Neurobiology and head of the Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology (1981-1990), Washington University School of Medicine. Director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at the National Institutes of Health (1998-2000). Vice president for Health and Biomedical Sciences, dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, dean of the Faculty of Medicine (2000- ), Columbia University.
