Simonds, Guy Granville, 1903-1974
Guy Simonds (b. April 23, 1903, England-d. May 15, 1974, Toronto, Canada), Lieutenant General in the Canadian Army, studied at the Royal Military College of Canada after emigrating to Canada with his family. He was commander of the II Canadian Corps and First Canadian Army during the Second World War, and in 1951 was appointed Chief of the General Staff-the youngest officer in the history of the Canadian Army to be promoted to the rank of general. He retired in 1960.
