The Dean of the Faculty was created in 1978 when the responsibilities of the existing Dean of the College position was divided to create two positons: Dean of the College, to retain supervision of the academic and extra-curricular life of undergraduates, and the Dean of the Faculty to administer concerns related to budgeting, faculty and curriculum development.
