Born in Columbia, Tennessee; Spanish American War veteran; reporter for and editor of newspapers in Anniston and Birmingham, Alabama; editor of Mexican newspapers and later Associated Press representative in Mexico; staff member of the Daily News in Jackson, Mississippi, and state centennial publicity chairman; owner and editor of the Hattiesburg American; converted under Gypsy Smith, Jr.; traveled in twenty states as an evangelist.
