Emma Willard School.
The Emma Willard School began as the Waterford Female Seminary in 1819; it was renamed the Troy Female Seminary when it moved to Troy in 1821. The name was later changed again to honor the founder. Emma Willard was succeeded as principal by John H. and Sarah Willard in 1838.
