Corrigan, Jones Irwin Joseph, 1878-1936

Jones Irwin Joseph Corrigan was born on December 30, 1878 in Chelsea, Massachusetts to Thomas and Mary Irwin Corrigan. He studied at Boston College from 1893 until 1897, when he entered the Society of Jesus. He received his bachelors and masters degrees from Woodstock College, Maryland in 1905 and 1906, and was ordained a priest in 1912. He taught philosophy and ethics, first at Woodstock College and then Loyola College, Maryland before joining the faculty in the Department of Ethics and Sociology at Boston College in 1916. Corrigan later served as Head of the Department. He was active in many social issues of his day and delivered public lectures and radio addresses on Catholic ethics and its application to social and economic problems. Corrigan died after an emergency operation for appenicitis at the age of 57, on September 9, 1936 in Boston.
