Hannah Jane James

Miss Hannah Jane James of Pen-y-Graig, Glamorgan was a literary scholar specialising in Welsh poetry. She won several prizes for her works of literary criticism including the T.E. Ellis prize at Aberystwyth in 1913 for her essay on the qualities of the poet William Llyn and won the same prize again in 1915 for her study of the poems of Sion Cent. She also won the University College Wales Chair at the Eisteddfod in 1914. Her work on Talhaiarn earned her the degree of MA of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth in 1919. She was the sister of Chancellor J.W. James of Bangor.
