Weitz, Alice Carey.

Iowa author, journalist and clubwoman.

Alice Weitz was born in Springfield, Ill. and attended Drake University. She worked as a writer for several Des Moines newspapers; established the Washington, D.C. news service bureau of the General Federation of Women's Clubs; edited the Iowa Club Woman beginning in 1920; served as secretary, then president of the Iowa Press and Authors Club; served as president of the Des Moines Public Library Board of Trustees; and served as editor of Prairie Gold, an anthology of Iowa authors and artists. Weitz was member of a number of organizations, including the Des Moines Women's Club, the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the Professional Women's League, the Iowa Press and Authors Club, the Iowa Association of Poetry, the Poetry Society of America and the National League of American Pen Women. She also served on the Iowa Salvage Committee during World War II and as a liason between the Iowa Federation of Women's Clubs and UNESCO and lectured extensively on topics such as business, women's rights and volunteering.
