Fellows, Carl H.

Carl H. Fellows was in Army training at Camp Stanley, Texas, in 1917 and 1918. Camp Stanley is part of the Leon Springs Military Reservation in Bexar County, northwest of San Antonio. Land was acquired for the military reservation in 1906 and 1907. The facilities were named Camp Funston in February 1917 to honor the memory of Major General Frederick Funston. In October 1917, the camp became Camp Stanley, named for Brigadier General David Sloane Stanley. Development of the Leon Springs facilities accelerated in 1916 and 1917 due to Pancho Villa's crossing the U.S. border and World War I. Camp Stanley, now part of the Red River Army Depot, is still in use today as a weapons and munitions supply, maintenance, test, and storage facility.
