Sir Douglas Copland was successively Professor of Economics at the University of Tasmania, Professor of Commerce at Melbourne University, Economic Consultant to Prime Minister John Curtin, Commonwealth Prices Commissioner, Australian Minister to China, first Vice-Chancellor of the Australian National University, High Commisioner to Canada and first Principal of the Australian Administrative Staff College.
