Seventy-Six (Ky.)

The community of Seventy-six is located in what is now Clinton County, Kentucky, at a set of falls on the Indian River. John Semple settled in the area in 1806, and had by 1817 built two water powered mills, a store, and had laid out the town. The name for the town came from either the height of the falls, a station number on the original survey, or the year when the Declaration of Independence was written.
