Roberdeau, Isaac, 1763-1829
Civil and military engineer; born in Philadelphia, Pa., and educated in England; assistant to Pierre L'Enfant in the early phase of the construction of the city of Washington, D.C.; in charge of several canal and construction projects in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; army officer in the War of 1812; chief, U.S. Bureau of Topographical Engineers (1818-1829); son of Daniel Roberdeau (1727-1795) and Mary Bostwick Roberdeau (d. 1777).
