Kohlsaat, H. H. (Herman Henry), 1853-1924.
Chicago newspaper publisher, bakery owner and influential Republican Party member.
Born in Albion, Illinois, in 1853, Kohlsaat was the confidant of several Presidents. He was a major supporter of the campaign of William McKinley, and influenced the Republicans' adoption of the gold standard plank during the 1896 election. At various times Kohlsaat was the publisher of the Chicago newspapers Inter-Ocean, Times-Herald, Evening-Post and the Record-Herald. He was the author of From McKinley to Harding: Personal Recollections of Our Presidents (1923). Kohlsaat and his wife Mabel E. Blake had 2 daughters. He died in Washington, D.C. in 1924.
