Swomley, John M., 1915-2010
John M. Swomley, Jr.; b. Harrisburg, Pa., in 1915; graduate of Dickinson College; Ph. D. in Political Science from University of Colorado; minister of the Methodist Church; National Secretary of the Fellowship of Reconciliation; active with the American Friends Service Committee and the American Civil Liberties Union; campaigned against universal military training; served as Director of the National Council Against Conscription, and as editor of Conscription News; author of books on militarism and the Cold War; much of his peace and anti-military work was done as an individual rather than as a representative of the Methodist Church.
