Booth, Barton, 1681-1733
Barton Booth was a famous English actor and successful theatre manager. Born in Lancashire, he left Trinity College to become an actor, starting with a theatrical company in Dublin. His subsequent return to London was an immediate success, and he became known for dramatic roles, playing Shakespearean figures such as King Lear, Marc Antony, and Brutus. He played at the Haymarket until 1708, before moving to the Drury Lane Theatre, which he co-managed with Colley Cibber (among others) with much success.
