Knox, Robert (Robert H.)
Robert and Wilma Knox came to Anchorage in 1951. While living in Alaska, Robert G. Knox held the positions of reporter/photographer and later managing editor of the Anchorage Daily News (1951-1954), owner and operator of the Book Cache retail bookstore (1954-1956), Chief of Technical Liaison for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Alaska District (1956-1960), managing editor of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner (1961), city and business editor of the Anchorage Times (1961-1967), publisher and editor of Alaska Industry magazine (1968-1981), and managing editor of Senior Voice, the publication of Anchorage's non-profit Older Persons Action Group (1981-1984). He also edited the Alaska Quarterly magazine and the weekly newspaper, Spenard Life (1954-1956). His work as a free-lance correspondent for publications and news services included writing articles for the The New York Times, Reuters, and International News Service. While in Alaska, Wilma M. Knox also worked as a journalist, writing articles independently and in collaboration with her husband. She was a writer/photographer for The Flag and Action, publications of the Northern Commercial Co. machinery division (1972-1975), and contributed articles and photographs to the magazines Agroborealis, Alaska Construction, and Alaska Industry. She also took photographs for the Alaska Dept. of Tourism, wrote articles on outdoor Alaska in the Christian Science Monitor and Popular Mechanics, and wrote a book with her husband, All About Camping in Alaska and the Yukon (1973). Robert and Wilma Knox left Alaska in 1984.
