Lucadello, Tony, 1912 - 1989.

Although Lucadello played two years in the minor leagues as a catcher, his claim to fame was as a scout. He worked for the Chicago Cubs, 1942-54, and the Philadelphia Phillies, 1955-89. He is credited with signing fifty players who made it to the major leagues. He was their scout in the upper midwest, primarily scouting Ohio and Indiana. He also scouted Ontario and Michigan. Among his signees are two Hall of Famers, Mike Schmidt and Ferguson Jenkins both for Philadelphia. He also signed Mike Marshall, Toby Harrah, Alex Johnson, and Jim Brosnan. Lucadello died in 1989 after shooting himself on the mound of the ballfield in Fostoria where he played Class D ball in the 1930s.
