Kauvar, Abraham J., 1915-

Graduated from University of Denver, Denver, Colo. in 1935 and earned Doctor of Medicine in 1939 from University of Chicago. Served as Professor of Medicine and Associate Dean of University of Colorado Medical School; conducted research at the Eleanor Roosevelt Institute for Cancer Research. Instrumental in founding Neighborhood Health Program in 1965. Manager of Denver Dept. of Health and Hospitals and also served as director of Davis Institute for the Care and Study of the Aging. From 1980-1981 managed New York City Health and Hospitals Corp.; named Goodstein Professor of Medicine and Geriatrics at University of Colorado Health Sciences Center; also served as President of Denver Club. In 1987 the Kauvar Foundation, which specializes in health care needs of the elderly, was established in his honor. Son of Rabbi Charles E.H. Kauvar, Denver religious leader.
