Episcopalian minister, pacifist and internationalist; staff member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation, American Section, 1924-1967, served as chair, 1935-1940; worked with the International Fellowship of Reconciliation and served as chair, 1935-1955; served as editor of The World Tomorrow (1922-1924) and Fellowship magazine 1940-1945); a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union and the Committee on Militarism in Education.
