Underwood, John C. (John Curtiss), 1809-1873
In 1864-1871, John Curtiss Underwood served as Judge of the U. S. District Court, District of Virginia. A prominent Republican, he was known for his zeal in enforcing the Federal laws, particularly those concerning confiscation of Confederate property and civil rights of Freedmen.
