Born in Arleux, France 1801, died in Taverny-Saint-Leu 1887; writer and socialist theorist; contributed to Phalanstère 1834 and to La Phalange; supported Fourierism; his book Èconomie sociale' of 1837 influenced Marx; member of Louis Blanc's Commission du Luxembourg; acknowledged authority on history and political economy; wrote an exposition of the communist theory: C̀atéchisme socialiste' under the name Greppo.
