Power, J. B. (James Buel), 1833-1912
Born at Stockport, N.Y., son of William H. and Catharine A. (Buel) Power. Began working for New York and Erie Railway in 1849, later worked for St. Louis and Pacific Railroad, and Northern Pacific Railway. Wed Helen Amelia Buckhout of Newburgh, N.Y. in 1857. Moved to Waseca County, Minn. in 1857. Purchased 6,000 acres of land near Leonard, N.D. in 1874 and named it Helendale Farm. Appointed to North Dakota Agricultural College Board of Trustees in 1890, served as acting president of North Dakota Agricultural College, 1893-1895. Elected to N.D. House of Representatives in 1897. Died at Helendale Farm in 1912, buried at Saint Paul, Minn.
