Lacey, Mamie Lee

African American clubwoman and civil rights activist, of Billings, Mont.

Mamie Lee Lacey is a prominent member of the minority community of Billings, Mont. She was statewide president of the Montana Federation of Colored Women's Clubs from 1968 to 1972 and was a delegate to the Northwest Association of Colored Women's Clubs convention in 1969, where she was in charge of the arts and crafts display. She was vice president of the Phyllis Wheatley Club in Billings, Mont., and served on the board of directors of the YWCA. Lacey supported cultural activities in Billings and contributed to the national activities to raise the stature of black Americans during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She owned and operated a craft store at a popular Billings location in the 1970s. Lacey was married to William B. Lacey.
