Hinrichs, Katy.
Katy Hinrichs was a leader in the development of a health and science museum in Cincinnati in the 1970s and early 1980s. She was a member of the Child Health Association (CHA), which opened a small health exhibit at the Children's Medical Center's Altenheim Building on Burnet Avenue in 1972. The week-long exhibit was under the auspices of the Child Health Association and its Executive Director, local pediatrician and University of Cincinnati professor, Robert A. Lyons and the Anatomy Department of the College of Medicine at the University of Cincinnati. The exhibit was so popular that plans were quickly made to house it at the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History. The museum added a library of films and pictures to the exhibit and organized volunteer instructors. By 1975 Katy Hinrichs was the chair of the CHA's Museum Committee, which oversaw the health exhibit. On April 22, 1975 the Lyon Health Wing of the Cincinnati Museum of Natural History was dedicated in honor of Dr. Robert A. Lyon's work within the community and his work supporting the health museum. In the spring of 1976, the CHA's Museum Committee reorganized as the Cincinnati Health and Science Center (CHSC) to promote good health and careers in the health field. Katy Hinrichs became the president of CHSC. Also in 1981, the Child Health Association disbanded and its remaining funds were given to the Museum of Health, Science and Industry to support MHSI's move to a larger facility. On September 18, 1982 MHSI opened in its long sought after larger accommodations, Cincinnati Union Terminal. At that time the terminal housed a shopping center called Oz that went out of business in 1984. "Bodyworks" was the first MHSI exhibit at the terminal.
