Knowlton, Steven R.
Knowlton (1922-1998) began skiing when he was seven years old and was captain of his high school ski team. While attending the University of New Hampshire, Knowlton won several skiing awards. He volunteered for the ski troops in 1942 and became a squad leader in the intelligence and reconnaissance platoon. Following the war, Knowlton won the U.S. National Downhill Ski championship in 1946. He was a member of the 1948 U.S. Olympic ski team. He helped to develop Aspen, Colorado as a ski resort and was responsible for opening Ski Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. He was inducted into three different halls of fame: in 1975 to the National Ski Hall of Fame; in 1981 to the Colorado Ski Hall of Fame and in 1993 to the Colorado Restaurant Hall of Fame.
