Montgomery, Raymond B. (Raymond Braislin), 1910-1988

Raymond Montgomery was a physical oceanographer who was affiliated with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) for many years. He was also a professor of meteorology at New York University, a visiting professor at Scripps Institution of Oceanography and the University of Hawaii, a professor at Brown University and Johns Hopkins University. He had broad research interests, but centered on equatorial currents, variation of sea level, and methods for the characterization of the structure of air and water masses. He was one of the first to use isentropic analysis and he had a role in the discovery of the equatorial undercurrent in the Pacific.
