Edwards was born Aug. 20, 1927 in Portchester, NY; attended UCLA (1943-46) and Southern Methodist Univ. (1947-48); was a child performer on the stage; junior writer, MGM, 1944; freelance film writer in Hollywood, 1950-54; freelance film and television writer in England and Europe, 1954-72; wrote many works of fiction and biography, including The survivors (1968), Shadow of a Lion (1971), Haunted summer (1972), Judy Garland : a biography (1975), Vivien Leigh : a biography (1976), Sonya : the life of Countess Tolstoy (1981), The road to Tara : the life of Margaret Mitchell (1983), Matriarch : Queen Mary and the House of Windsor (1984), and A remarkable woman : a biography of Katharine Hepburn (1985).
