McCauley, David, 1825-1900.
Born at Merrimac, N.H., son of Daniel G. and Mary Noyes McCauley. Apprenticed as a machinist 1838-1841, moved to Saint Paul, Minn. in 1858. Arrived at Fort Abercrombie in 1861, worked as postmaster, post sutler, and agent for Northwest Express Company. In 1864, moved to Wilkin County, Minn., began farming and opened a trading post at the site of McCauleyville. Married Anna Trott, later married Carrie Whitman in 1879. Served as county school superintendent, postmaster, town clerk, and justice of the peace. Died 1900, buried at Oakland Cemetery, Saint Paul, Minn. with his wife.
