Houston, John M. (John Mills), 1890-1975
John Mills Houston was born near Formosa, Kansas, September 15, 1890. He attended Wichita public schools and St. John's Military Academy in Salina. Houston attended Fairmount College in Wichita, and later enlisted in the armed forces. He served as a noncommissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps in the first World War. Houston served as mayor of Newton, Kansas from 1927-1931.
Houston, a Democrat, served four terms in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1935-1943. He was appointed a member of the National Relations Labor Board on March 15, 1943 and served until his retirement in 1953. He died April 25, 1953 in Laguna Beach, California.
