Thalhimer, William B., 1888-1969
William B. Thalhimer, Jr., served as CEO of Thalhimer Brothers, Inc., of Richmond, Va., 1950-1987, and as chairman, 1973-1990. The company opened as a one-room family owned retail store in Richmond, Va., in 1842; publicly traded, 1953; acquired by the May Company, 1990; merged with May Company subsidiary, Hecht Company of Arlington, Va., in 1992, at which time the Thalhimer name was discontinued. The business was headed in succession by William Thalhimer (1809-1883), Isaac Thalhimer (1855-1930), William B. Thalhimer (1888-1969), and William B. Thalhimer, Jr. (b. 1914).
