Auriol, George, 1863-1938
Illustrator, typographical designer and writer. His literary activity culminated in the first part of his life, as a writer and editor of the journal Chat Noir from 1883 to 1893. After 1900 he became an important designer of book illustrations and typography, influential in the "Belle Epoque" period. He made hundreds of book covers for avant-garde authors published by Enoch, Flammarion, and Ollendorff.
