Schuyler, C. V. R.

Cortlandt Van Rensselaer Schuyler (b. Dec. 22, 1900, Arlington, N.J.-d. Dec. 6, 1993), U.S. Army officer, was commissioned in the Coast Artillery Corps in 1922 from West Point, where he later served as an instructor from 1927 to 1931. During World War II, his assignments included service with the Army Ground Forces; chief of staff, Antiaircraft Command; commanding general, Antiaircraft Artillery Training Command; and military chief of Allied Control Command in Romania from 1944 to 1947. After the War, General Schuyler served as chief of staff of Supreme HQ Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) beginning in 1953 until his retirement in 1959.
