Hart, Judith

Judith Hart (1921-1991) was MP for Lanarkshire between 1959-1983 and Clydeside between 1983-1987 before being made a life peer in 1988. During her time in Parliament she was a member of the Labour Government of the 1960s and 1970s. Her special interest was in foreign affairs and she was Minister for Overseas Development in 1967-1968. She was an influential member of the Party's left wing, opposing nuclear armament and British entry into the Common Market. Serving on the National Executive Committee of the party between 1969 and 1983, she was party chair 1981-1982.
