Hechinger Company
Founded in 1911 as a wrecking operation in Washington, D.C.; sold salvaged building materials to the public; began stocking new materials as well to satisfy customer needs; in 1953 the company reorganized as a partnership and established a corporation called Richard England Associates to handle the wholesale business; 1999 the company declared bankruptcy and closed its doors in September 1999.
