Bronson, Alvin, 1783-1881
Born in Waterbury, New Haven, Conn. 19 May 1783, second son of Josiah and Tabitha (Tuttle) Bronson. Established as a merchant in New Haven, he moved to Oswego, N.Y. in 1810 with his partners Jacob Townsend and Sheldon Thompson. During the War of 1812 he was appointed military and naval storekeeper. He was elected to two terms as New York State senator, and served as the first president of the Oswego Board of Trade.
