First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor (Ann Arbor, Mich.)

The first Methodist circuit rider to preach in the Ann Arbor area was John Baughman. Two years later, in 1827, five individuals organized themselves into a Methodist Society. In 1830, the Ann Arbor church was listed as an appointment of the Methodist Conference. The first dedicated building of the church was begun in 1837. In 1866, the congregation having outgrown this facility began construction of a new church building on the corner of State and Washington. In 1939, this building was replaced with a stone structure at the same location.
