North Carolina State University. Patent and Invention Committee.
In 1940 Colonel J. W. Harrelson, Dean of Administration of North Carolina State College (later University), appointed a committee of faculty members to make recommendations on institutional policy governing patents and inventions developed in the laboratories of the college and to prepare papers, by-laws and other documents necessary for the establishment of a research foundation at the college. The name of the corporation was the North Carolina State College Research Foundation. The purpose of the corporation was to promote educational objectives by encouraging, fostering and conducting scientific investigations and industrial research and by training and developing persons for the conduct of such investigations and research. The Patent and Invention Committee was also responsible for reviewing patent applications and patent disclosures and for issuing patents to corporations or individuals.
