Johnson, Harry W. 1901-1984.

Biographical note: After his graduation from the United States Military Academy, Harry W. Johnson served in the United States Cavalry (1926-1942). He later became assistant chief of staff of the Ninth Armored Division (1942-1943) and participated in the invasion of Normandy with the XIX Corps. Johnson became chief of staff for the administration of the United States European Command (EUCOM), and then the director of the United States Army Armor School at Fort Knox, Kentucky (1950-1954). Afterwards, Johnson served as assistant division commander of the Second Armored Division (1954-1955) and as commanding general of the Army communications zone, headquartered in France (1955-1956). Johnson then became the deputy commanding general of the communications zone and later commander of the Army Military District of Alabama. His last commands were as deputy commanding general of the Third Army Reserve (1957) and deputy chief of staff for combat development at Fort Monroe, Virginia (1958-1961). He retired from the United States Army in 1961.
